Day Programs

Kindergarten (5 year old)

Our kindergarten program challenges each student to develop interactive independence, creativity, and a sense of responsibility as a global citizen. The curriculum is developed to foster a lifetime of learning. We will focus on mastering letters, sounds, and words. We encourage students to become proficient readers, using one of our traditional and non non-traditional reading corners. Early aptitude for writing is an indication of a child’s reading ability. Students will learn about math and the art of observation. We support creative thinking and problem-solving through interactive education

Interdisciplinary Curriculum:

An integrated curriculum allows children to follow learning in a holistic way. The curriculum also incorporates process and technology. Your child will have some computer time, to listen to letter sounds, solve math problems and read. Students will build around their language art, math, science and social studies.

LANGUAGE ARTS:

The kindergarten language art curriculum is crucial for laying the foundation for a child’s reading, writing, and communication skills. Fundamentals such as phonics, word recognition, and comprehension will be introduced.

  • Letter recognition: Identifying and naming upper and lower case letters of the alphabet.
  • Letter-sound correspondence: Associating each letter with its corresponding sound.
  • Beginning and ending sounds: Identifying the initial and final sounds in words.
  • CVC words: Reading and writing simple consonant-vowel-consonant words (e.g., cat, dog, map).
  • Word families: Recognizing and generating words that rhyme or share a common spelling pattern (e.g., -at family: cat, hat, mat)
  • Flashcards: Presenting sight words on flashcards for students to read and memorize.
  • Word walls: Displaying high-frequency words in the classroom for easy reference
  • Interactive games: Engaging students in activities that involve identifying and reading sight words.
  • Shared reading: Reading aloud with the class, emphasizing sight words,  and encouraging students to join in.
  • Making predictions: Encouraging students to use pictures and text to guess what will happen next in a story.
  • Asking and answering questions: Teaching students to ask questions about the text and find answers within it.
  • Retelling stories: Having students retell stories in their own words to demonstrate

    understanding.

MATHEMATICS

Math is an important part of learning for children in the early years because it provides vital life skills. Children use early math skills every day, whether at school or at home, during their routines, or at play. Getting dressed and brushing teeth, eating breakfast, and going grocery shopping–all of these activities present opportunities for teaching mathematics in early childhood when approached with the right mindset.

  • Students are exposed to counting, numerical recognition and reasoning, whole-part relationships, spatial relationships, and identifying and creating patterns
  • Numbers and Counting
  • Recognize and write numbers (anywhere from 0-10 to 0-30)
  • Name ordinal numbers first through tenth
  • Count to 100 by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s
  • Count backward from 10
  • Shapes and Graphs
  • Recognize and draw the five basic geometric shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle, oval)
  • Identify, copy, create, and extend patterns of three objects
  • Make and interpret graphs
  • Measuring and Comparing
  • Use nonstandard objects (pencils, blocks, and hands) to measure length, volume, and weight
  • Compare quantities by estimating, weighing, and measuring

SOCIAL STUDIES

Kinder Social Studies engages and encourages young learners to think “outside the box” and prove their thinking.  Social Studies is based on five units

  1. Rules
  2. Country/Community Helpers
  3. Maps
  4. Cultures
  5. Economics

  • Rules and laws teach us how to be good citizens Country and Community helpers introduce us to symbols and authorities in different countries and the history of flags.
  • Maps teach us about locations and countries around the World.
  • Cultures help us focus on different kinds of celebrations and the history behind them.
  • Economics teaches us about our wants and needs, producers and consumers, and money.

And Much More…
